Task From Email 1.1 released

An update to the Task From Email Outlook macro that provides support for adding the button to the main inbox (and selecting one or more emails to create tasks for) and a bug fix for people who don’t use English settings within Windows. In addition, the licence was changed to the GNU GPL and the documentation updated for Outlook 2012 (yes, it was quite an old piece of code!).

Many thanks to Brian Girton for the inbox idea and Gianpaolo Baglione for helping to resolve the non-English issue.

You can download it from here.

Outlook2Evernote 1.3 released

A new version of Outlook2Evernote is now available that resolves a couple of issues relating to Outlook notes containing tabs, which would cause the import into Evernote to fail. Many thanks to Bart Epstein for his help in resolving these. You can download it from here.

Outlook2Evernote 1.2 released

I’ve issued an update to Outlook2Evernote which, hopefully, resolves the probably infamous MISSING_NOTE_TITLE error. This problem could have been fixed by removing a number of different characters from the title of the notes but I wanted something a little less “hacky” and, as a result, version 1.2 can now handle these characters and successfully import the resulting XML into Evernote. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this as I appreciate it has not been the fastest defect to get fixed. You can get it from here.

wmc-dedupe 1.1 released

A small update to wmc-dedupe which (rather boringly) fixes an error that is sometimes generated when the program cannot determine it’s own process ID.

However, something more interesting is that it can now identify two shows as being the same, even if one of them is (incorrectly) abusing characters with accents. For example, if the only difference between two shows is that one has in the description the word “fiancĂ©e” and the other has “fiancee” then they will both be treated as the same.

You can download it from here and updating should be as simple as overwriting the existing file with the new one.

wmc-dedupe 1.0 released

My HTPC setup consists of an Atom based nettop with two DVB-T tuners (for Freeview) running Windows 7 Media Center and I think it’s probably the best user experience I’ve seen (disclaimer: I’ve not seen the Tivo UI which may be better). However one thing that really dampens the experience is the poor EPG data provided by some of Microsoft’s third parties that causes the series link functionality to go berserk and attempt to record every single possible instance of a television show ever scheduled. If you’ve ever tried to record CSI here in the UK, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Given that complaints to Microsoft generally go unresolved, I’ve written my own program which temporarily “fixes” the problem by scanning all recorded shows on your hard-drive and deleting duplicate recordings to save you from drowning in repeats of a show. If you don’t want to delete them immediately, you can move them into a separate folder away from the “Recorded TV” section and the program can automatically delete them after they’ve been sitting in there a certain number of days.

It’s pretty easy to set up provided you’re comfortable with running command line applications and using the Windows Task Scheduler. More details can be found here.

AvantSlash 4.2 released

Another mega update from Han-Kwang which provides a massive number of tweaks, updates and fixes (about 63 if you want to count) to what shall henceforth be known as AvantSlash 4.2. Watch out for better error handling, time zone translations and date formatting, new artwork, a better credits page, blocking of web robots, a demo mode (to be installed here shortly), black colour scheme for reading in the dark and better reading of truncated comments amongst the gems. You can download it from the usual place.
